About Fern & Prairie

Once upon a time, Mari and Denis were city dwellers, living in bustling metropolises and working demanding jobs in technology and academia. Despite the excitement and opportunities of city life, they both felt a nagging sense of disconnection from the natural world and a desire for a more meaningful way of living.

They moved to the suburbs with their young children, seeking a slower pace of life and more space to grow. Mari worked at a large university, but she also began exploring her passion for agriculture and sustainable living. Denis put his skills as a handyman to use by building and renovating their home and garden.

But the suburbs still felt disconnected from the natural world, and Mari and Denis longed for more. One day, they stumbled upon a small property for sale in the countryside, and they knew it was meant to be. They took a leap of faith and moved their family out of the suburbs and into the tranquility of rural life.

The transition was not without its challenges, but Mari and Denis embraced the hard work that came with their new lifestyle. Mari used her expertise in academia to manage the educational aspects of the farm, while also diving deep into the world of agriculture and sustainable living. Denis put his handyman skills to use by building and renovating the farm's infrastructure.

Mari's true passion on the farm is growing flowers. She takes great pride in carefully cultivating each and every stem, nurturing them from seed to bloom. Though it's hard for her to let them go, she knows that the joy they bring to others is worth it. Mari's love for flowers is infectious, and her bouquets have become a favorite among the local community.

In addition to flowers, Mari and Denis also keep a small herd of goats on the farm. These furry friends serve a vital role in keeping the grass and invasive plants under control. Mari and Denis take great care in raising and tending to their animals, and the goats have become a beloved part of their farm family.

Today, Mari and Denis continue to work side by side, with their small children often playing and learning alongside them. They have found a deep sense of fulfillment and purpose in working the land and being stewards of the earth. Their journey from the city to the suburbs to the farm has been a challenging and rewarding one, and they wouldn't have it any other way.
